Museo Diocesano and Basilica of Sant’Eufemia

NEWS _ The owners of the Spoleto Card no longer recognize the entrance to the diocesan museum and the Basilica of Sant’Eufemia.

Inaugurated in the Seventies of the last century, the museum was born from the need to exploit and subtract to ruin the historical-artistic patrimony of the Diocese of Spoleto-Norcia. Located in the complex of the Archbishop’s Palace, which also includes the Basilica of Sant’Eufemia, it unfolds in the representative wing, called “Apartment of the Cardinal”.
The works exhibited, dating from the XII and XVIII centuries, are ordered chronologically and thematically in the halls adorned by sixteenth-century doors and decorated between ‘ 7oo and ‘ 800. Among these, the Hall of Bishops, stands out for the walls painted with the portraits of the bishops Spoletini from the origins to today and for the valuable furnishings.
Among the artists present are Filippino Lippi, Domenico Beccafumi, il Cavalier d’arpino, Sebastiano Conca, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Alessandro Algardi.

From the chapel of the Cardinal is reached in the passage that leads to the matronea of the Basilica of Sant’Eufemia, admirable example of Romanesque architecture.
